Southern Fried Chicken with Honey Butter Sauce
We recently had dinner in a favorite restaurant in our home town of Coeur D' Alene Idaho. This recipe comes from trying to recreate that dinner. It is so yummy, who knew that fried chicken needed Honey butter?
Ingredients
For The Chicken
- 4 lightly pounded chicken breasts
- 2 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 2 tbsp hot sauce
- salt and pepper
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp marjoram
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- oil for frying
For The HoneyButter Sauce
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/2 cup honey
- 4 tbsp butter, melted
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- dash black pepper
Instructions
- Add hot sauce and chicken to buttermilk and let sit at least 4 hours, preferably over night.
- Melt butter in sauce pan Add honey, cheyenne pepper, nutmeg, black pepper whisk well, set aside.
- Mix flour, panko and spices together in a dish.
- Pour buttermilk off of chicken into a dish add eggs, dredge chicken in flour mixture, dip in milk mixture and then dredge in flour one more time.
- Put chicken on a rack and allow to sit for 30 minutes, bring oil up to 350 degrees.
- Fry chicken until brown on both sides, move to oven and cook an additional 15 minutes or internal temperature reaches 165 degrees
- Serve immediately with Honey Butter Sauce
Notes
I serve this over mashed potatoes with rosemary biscuits and a side vegetable.
