
Cranberry Orange Scones
These Cranberry Orange Scones are the perfect breakfast or addition to a brunch or afternoon tea. They are so simple to make and so good.
Ingredients
The Scones
- 3 cup all purposed flour
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 stick cold butter cut into 1/4 inch pieces
- 1 cup dried cranberries
- zest of one orange
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup orange juice
The Icing
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- zest from 1 orange
- juice from 1 orange add additional orange juice or water if needed to thin the icing.
Instructions
For the scones
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees
- In a small bowl mix the milk and orange juice
- In a large bowl, combine dry ingredients
- Mix well, add the butter and using a pastry blender cut the butter in until it resembles course crumbs.
- Add cranberries, orange zest and milk mixture and stir just until moistened.
- Turn onto a floured board and gently knead until shaggy, dry dough forms.
- Cut the dough in half and pat into two disks, lightly roll each into a 6 inch circle.
- Transfer to a baking sheet and brush the tops with beaten egg.
- Score each into 6 wedges.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until tops are brown.
- Cool on rack
For the icing
- Add the powdered sugar and orange zest to a bowl, whisk to mix and then add in the orange juice while whisking.
- Drizzle the icing over the scones. Allow the icing to set and serve.
