
Chocolate Thumbprint Cookies
If there’s one cookie guaranteed to disappear first, it’s these chocolate thumbprints—rich, irresistible, and a longtime family favorite at Christmas.

Ingredients
Cookies
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup softened butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 2 1 4 cup all purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 2 tsp grated orange peel
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 cup jam, jelly or marmalade
Glaze
- 1/4 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
- 2 Tbsp butter

- Heat the oven to 325℉
- In a stand mixer, combine the softened butter and sugar, and beat until light and fluffy.
- Add the vanilla and egg and blend well.
- Add the flour, cocoa, orange peel, and baking powder, mix well.
- Shape the dough into 1-inch balls and roll in the 3 Tbsp of sugar.
- Place on un-greased cookie sheets 2 inches apart.
- With your thumb, make an indentation in the center of each cookie.
- Fill the indentation with jam of choice; don't overfill.
- Bake at 325℉ for 14-17 minutes or until firm to the touch.
- Immediately remove the cookies from the cookie sheet to a cooling rack.
- Cool completely.
Glaze
- Melt the butter in the microwave or a double broiler, add the chocolate chips, and stir until melted.
- Fill a small ziplock bag with the chocolate glaze, snip the tip, and drizzle the chocolate over the cooled cookies.
- Allow the glaze to set and enjoy!
